Have an eviction from 2024. Trying to rent now. Every application gets rejected. What's working for people?

Independent landlords (Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Zillow 'private owner') are way more open than property management companies. Walk in with: 3 months current pay stubs, two reference letters (employer + former non-eviction landlord if you have one), offer 2 months' deposit instead of 1. The 'over-prepared' applicant overrides the screening report.

Same playbook worked for me. Also — some cities and nonprofits have 'second chance' rental programs that mediate with landlords. Local housing-rights organizations know which landlords participate.
