For Attorneys

A market that's been waiting for you to reach it.

Households who earn too much for legal aid and too little for a full retainer — clients you couldn't serve profitably before. Lawma's AI does the preparation and the paperwork; you bring the legal judgment and review every matter. Free to join, competitive marketplace share per engagement.

The model

A supervised paralegal that never replaces you

On every Lawma matter, a licensed attorney is responsible for the law. AI does the rote work; you make every decision that touches legal substance. The model rests on two pillars: AI trained for the matter types you accept and engagements priced where ordinary clients can actually pay. The first compresses your delivery cost. The second lets you take unbundled work profitably. “Supervised paralegal” is the regulatory frame; the two pillars are how the model works in practice.

Revenue you weren't getting before

Take on case types outside your usual practice with confidence. Lawma assembles the case file, drafts the analysis, and surfaces the relevant law — opening up matters you would otherwise turn away, in adjacent practice areas you already understand at a high level.

Upskill with AI alongside you

Newer to practice or new to a case category? Lawma's case analysis lays out the controlling statutes, the procedural posture, the strategy memo, and the precedent for every matter — a research associate you don't have yet. Use it as a learning surface, then add your own judgment.

Prepared, organized clients

Clients arrive having completed a structured guided interview. Their facts are gathered, documented, and ready — no intake calls, no chasing missing information, no half-built records.

AI handles the grunt work

Lawma produces a drafted case analysis and assembles the official court forms deterministically from structured client data. You start from a working draft, not a blank page — so your hours go to the parts of lawyering AI cannot do: understanding your client, building strategy, advocating in court.

Better at lawyering, even when you take the whole case

On full-representation matters, Lawma doesn't disappear — it makes you more effective. AI prepares clean, comprehensive documents and surfaces the controlling law; you spend your hours where they matter most: knowing your client's story, sharpening the theory of the case, and advocating in front of a judge. The work-product is better because the lawyer wasn't buried in paperwork.

You keep full professional control

Nothing reaches a client or a court without your review and approval. Every document is a DRAFT until you sign off. The professional judgment — and the relationship — remain entirely yours.

Fixed-scope, predictable engagements

Every Lawma engagement is unbundled and fixed-scope — a document review, a single hearing, a consultation — at a price you set up front. Your exposure is bounded; your time is priced before it is spent.

A private peer forum

Connect with verified attorneys on the platform in a walled-off forum — raise a tactical question, share a clause that worked, compare approaches with peers who actually do this work.

Fair, transparent platform economics

No subscription, no listing fees, no lead fees, no setup costs. Lawma takes a competitive marketplace share on each fixed-scope engagement — well below the 30%+ traditional firm-to-firm referral split and below the $200–$400 effective cost of acquiring the same client through paid search. Specific share rate is shared during attorney onboarding.

Pro bono and access-to-justice credit

Limited-scope work in California (and most other states) typically counts toward State Bar pro bono recommendations and access-to-justice service tracking. Doing good work at scale is also doing your professional duty.

Banking-grade security, by design

Multi-tenant firm isolation and a two-party data wall — each side of a case sees only their own data, enforced at the database — are built in, not bolted on. The production identity architecture is Auth0 with mandatory MFA on every account, and the hosting target is an AWS-native, single-cloud compliance umbrella (SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA-eligible, FedRAMP-authorized, ISO 27001) — both sequenced on the security roadmap. The full posture, what runs today and what comes next, is summarized below.

Your workflow

From intake to approved filing

Lawma compresses the routine work of a matter while keeping every review gate firmly in your hands.

  1. You accept the client. An attorney-client relationship is established before any deep coaching begins. This sequencing — relationship before AI — is the structural advantage Lawma has over every self-service competitor.Hello Divorce, LegalZoom, Rocket Lawyer, Trust & Will, and dott.legal all explicitly disclaim being law firms — their users get no attorney-client relationship and no privilege, so the guidance those platforms can legally provide stays generic. Because Lawma gates everything behind your acceptance of the matter, the AI under your supervision can give the case-specific drafting and analysis the other tools cannot.
  2. Lawma runs the guided interview. The client completes a structured, privileged intake at their own pace.
  3. You receive a drafted case analysis. Lawma assembles the analysis and the official court forms from the client's structured data.
  4. You review, revise, and approve. Documents remain DRAFT until you approve them — then the client may file.

Security & compliance

Built for privileged data — from day one

Your clients' matters are attorney-client privileged. Lawma is engineered to that standard — banking-grade infrastructure, the compliance frameworks pilot firms diligence, and the vendor names malpractice carriers already recognize.

Single-cloud, AWS-native

Privileged data lives entirely within AWS US region — one compliance umbrella covering SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA-eligible, FedRAMP-authorized, ISO 27001, and PCI-DSS. One audit trail, one BAA, one set of controls to diligence — not a patchwork of younger vendors.

Identity built for MFA

The production identity architecture is Auth0 with mandatory multi-factor authentication on every account — TOTP first, SMS fallback. Auth0 is itself FedRAMP-authorized and SOC 2 Type II audited. Adoption is sequenced in our security roadmap (see /security), stated there phase by phase.

Multi-tenant firm isolation

Your firm's data is walled off from every other firm's — enforced in the data layer and verified by automated isolation tests on every build. The production architecture hardens this further with database-enforced row-level security (sequenced in the security roadmap), so an application bug cannot leak across firms.

Two-party data walls

A family-law case has two sides. On Lawma, each side is walled off from the other in the data layer — neither party can see the other's intake, documents, or attorney communications. Conflict-of-interest checks run server-side before any match is accepted.

Zero-data-retention AI

Every LLM call runs against Anthropic Claude under a zero-data-retention / DPA agreement — no storage of inputs or outputs, no training on case data, in the attorney's circle of confidentiality (the Kovel posture). Every legal-bearing AI output is gated by attorney review.

Encrypted everywhere, audited everywhere

TLS in transit, KMS-encrypted at rest (database, object storage, backups). Documents accessed only via short-lived signed URLs. Every read of privileged data is recorded in an immutable audit log. No advertising or third-party trackers on any authenticated surface — ever.

What only an attorney catches

What your clients don't know is killing their cases.

Every case dismissed on procedure is a case where a litigant didn't know what you would have caught in thirty seconds.

Service of process failures. Missed answer deadlines. Witnesses who can't sign a will. Creditors who go unscheduled in a bankruptcy. Disclosures that never get filed and judgments the court refuses to enter. The list of ways to lose a case before it's heard is long — and it grows every legislative session. Your clients won't learn any of them from a self-help website.

Questions we hear often

The details attorneys ask about.

How does Lawma get paid?

Lawma takes a flat 10% application fee on each engagement a client hires you through, routed via Stripe Connect — never held by Lawma. You keep 90% of every fee.

There are no minimums, no monthly seat fees, no exclusivity. If you don't take a Lawma client this month, Lawma is paid nothing that month. Featured placement + premier categories run separately as a subscription; those are optional.

Do I stay the lawyer of record?

Yes, on every matter. The engagement is between you and the client — Lawma is the technology and the introduction, not a party to the representation.

What kinds of matters come through?

Pre-qualified against your practice areas, your state, and your fee structure — you see the case type, the jurisdiction, and the client's answers to your intake before you accept. You never see a matter outside your scope.

How much of my time does this take vs. traditional matter intake?

Lawma runs the intake interview and drafts the first round of documents under your supervision — you review and approve before anything reaches the client. In practice attorneys report ~60% less time to a filed matter vs. a same-scope pro-se-cleanup engagement.

Is there malpractice or bar-rule exposure I should know about?

You carry your own malpractice as always; Lawma carries cyber-liability + tech-E&O insurance for the platform itself. Bar-rule structure: Lawma is a technology company plus lawyer-directory, not a lawyer referral service — the fee is not a referral kickback, it's an application fee for use of the platform. Modeled on how Substack + Patreon price creator transactions and how Rocket Lawyer prices its attorney network. If you have jurisdictional questions, we can share our counsel's memo on request.
