Sell the marital house or buy him out?
Equity in the house is about $200k. I can probably refinance to keep it. Sentimental reasons say keep. Numbers say sell. How did you decide?

We kept ours for the kids' continuity. Two years in, the property tax / maintenance / single-income strain finally pushed me to sell. The kids adapted to the new place better than I expected. If I'd known then what I knew two years later, I'd have sold sooner.
Opposite for me — kept it, refinanced, glad I did. The neighborhood and the schools were worth the stretch. Both answers are right for different people. Run the actual numbers with a mortgage broker before you decide on feelings.
A financial planner (look for fee-only, fiduciary, by-the-hour — NOT commission-based) for $200-$500 can model both scenarios on a spreadsheet. Best money I spent.
