What helped: a 'pet resume' — one-page sheet with the dog's age, breed, weight, training certificates, vaccination dates, two references from former landlords/neighbors, a photo. Independent landlords loved it. Got the unit on the third application.

Larger apartment complexes often have weight or breed restrictions but smaller buildings and independent landlords don't. Filter Zillow/Apartments by 'private owner.' Offer pet deposit + monthly pet rent upfront — it's negotiable.
