Got a 3 day notice to pay or quit

Late on May rent by 9 days. Landlord taped a notice to my door. What does '3 day notice to pay or quit' actually mean? Do they evict on day 4?

Day 4 they can FILE in court. They cannot lock you out, change locks, or shut off utilities. The court process takes weeks. Pay if you can but don't panic about the locks tonight.
