What's a 'status only' judgment / bifurcation?

We agree to be single again but we are still arguing about the house. Lawyer mentioned 'bifurcation.' Has anyone done this?

Bifurcation of marital status is a CA procedure (FL-315) that ends the marriage now while leaving property and support issues to be decided later. You get the legal status of 'single' once the six-month mark is past, and the rest of the case continues. The court will impose conditions to protect the other spouse's interests — typically keeping them on your health insurance, maintaining beneficiary designations, and acknowledging tax consequences. It is not free or automatic; you file a motion and the judge can deny it. Useful when remarriage timing or health-insurance changes matter to one spouse. General guidance.
