I read about Santa Clara guideline calculators and DissoMaster. Is that what they actually use or is it just a starting point?

DissoMaster is what judges use for temporary support. Permanent support is set by considering a list of factors — earning capacity, length of marriage, standard of living. The calculator gets you started, not the final number.
