Spousal support after a 6 year marriage in CA

I read it's usually half the length of the marriage for short ones. So 3 years of support? Is that automatic or do I have to ask for it?

The half-the-length rule is a guideline for short marriages, not automatic. Ask for it in your filings or you won't get it. The amount depends on income, need, and a list of factors.
