Send a written demand TODAY (text + email + certified letter) requesting your final wages with a deadline (5 business days). Cite your state's final-pay statute. In CA, Labor Code §201 requires immediate payment of final wages if you were terminated, and §202 requires payment within 72 hours if you quit without notice (or on your last day if you gave 72+ hours notice). The penalty for delay is the 'waiting time penalty' under §203 — your daily wage for every day the check is late, up to 30 days. So a delayed paycheck can become a meaningful claim quickly. File a wage claim with the CA Labor Commissioner (free, online via dir.ca.gov) if the demand letter doesn't work. They actually collect.
