Paying for an attorney.

Lawma matches you with an attorney for a flat fee that you pay up front. Here's what that looks like and how refunds work.

← All help topics

How much does it cost?

Each attorney sets their own flat fee. You see the price before you choose them, not after. There are no surprise hourly bills: once you've paid, that's it for the work described in the match.

When do I pay?

You pay when you confirm the match. We use Stripe to handle the card — Lawma never sees or stores your card number. The fee is held in your attorney's payout account; we keep a small share for running the platform.

Can I get a refund?

Yes — for 7 days after you pay. If you change your mind or your attorney can't take the case, open your dashboard and click the refund link. The money goes back to the same card you paid with; most banks show it within a few business days.

What if more than 7 days have passed?

Talk to your attorney first. They may issue a refund directly. If you can't resolve it that way, write to our support team — we'll help work it out.

Where are my receipts?

Sign in and open Payments in your dashboard. You'll see every payment, every refund, and you can download a receipt as a PDF.
