When did your kids stop blaming themselves

My 8 year old keeps saying it's his fault because he was bad. Months of telling him otherwise. Does this go away?

For us it was around month 8 with a child therapist who explained it in kid-words every week. We just kept saying the same thing every time he brought it up: 'this is grown-up stuff, you didn't cause it.'
