I-864 — my income is below the threshold. Joint sponsor?

Sponsoring my husband. My income is below 125% of poverty for our household size. Can a relative help?

Yes. You'd be the primary sponsor (still required to file I-864) and a 'joint sponsor' fills out a separate I-864 with their own income/assets. The joint sponsor must meet the 125% threshold for THEIR household plus your beneficiary. The joint sponsor must be a US citizen or LPR, 18+, domiciled in the US. Co-signer (joint sponsor) liability is the same as yours — they can be sued by the government for benefits the immigrant uses for up to 10 years or until citizenship. Make sure your joint sponsor understands this before signing.
